Bathymetric Mapping for Law of the Sea and other Arctic goings-on: HLY0703

Marcy Davis
UTIG Research Scientist Associate II

SEMINAR OVERIEW:
This week, don't miss your chance to hear about Marcy Davis' latest trip to the Arctic with UNH's Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center. The cruise focus was primarily a mapping mission in support of US claim formulation under the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea. Other science activities included acoustic monitoring (SIO) and ice buoy deployment by the National Ice Center.

For great photographs, interesting sound bites, new ideas for processing bathymetric data, and tales of tradition resplendent in maritime lore, come to Wednesday's Brown Bag.

The cruise began during a flurry of press in the week following the Russian flag-planting at the North Pole. Listen to the NPR- Morning edition story: 'Nations Jostle for Share of the Arctic'

(one of NPR's producers joined the cruise to interview the captain about their mapping mission).
