Windows Printing
The IG domain went away in early 2021.
Please follow these instructions on UT wired, UT wireless and UT VPN networks.
1. Right click Start -> Settings -> Devices -> Printers and Scanners
2. +Add a printer or scanner
If you are on the wired network, you will see a list of local printers.
We prefer that you print via the ig4 server that provides a single point of control, rather than a free-for-all at the printer itself.
However, we understand the need for simple solutions - select a local printer if you must.
3. Scroll down past local printers to the blue link: The printer I want isn't listed
4. Select a shared printer by name:
enter \\ig4\ if you are in the AUSTIN domain; see a pull-down-list
[ connecting from non-AUSTIN systems is not working 2022-08-10 - sorry ]
enter \\ig4.ig.utexas.edu\ if not and see a pull-down-list
5. Choose a printer based on room number
6. Do you want to use this as your default printer? Yes/No?
(Optional: print a test page) Finish.
Macintosh Printing
Please follow these instructions on UT wired, UT wireless and UT VPN networks.
0. Optional - install the appropriate driver. Generic PS is fine for most users
a.
Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://ig0.ig.utexas.edu/software/
b. Enter your austin\eid username and password.
c. Browse to "
mac/source/Print Drivers"
d. Double-Click on the appropriate driver installer.
e. Follow the installer instructions.
f. Drag the mounted installer image from your desktop to the Trash.
1. Apple -> System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners
2. Click "+" to add a new printer
3.
Select "IP" from the top toolbar
4. Address: ig4.ig.utexas.edu
5. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon -- LPD
6. Queue: <Name of a printer listed above>
7. Name: <your label for this printer>
6. Use -> "Select Software"
7. Select the appropriate driver. Generic PS is fine for most users
Please set your queues up this way rather than using Bonjour. It ensures that everyone prints through the same server, which allows everyone to see what print jobs are active in case there are problems. If you must, you may connect directly if you are on the wired ROC network. This is fine if you will only print very occasionally, or when the print servers are down. Please name the printer with a "-direct" so it is obvious later. Macs don't let you look at the printer settings once established.
Unix/Linux Printing
Printers of all known systems have
been updated. If yours has not, please email gripe with its name.
Notes
Fully qualified domain names are required for wireless or VPN access but optional at UTIG. Thus "ig0.ig.utexas.edu" instead of "ig0"as the server name.
