GeoMechanics Laboratory

In the GeoMechanics Lab we determine properties of sediments taken from below the seafloor.  This is material that is collected on IODP (Integrated Ocean Drilling Program) cruises.  Contact Peter Flemings for more information.

 

We run the following tests to determine sediment properties:

• CRS (constant rate of strain) tests

• Grain size analysis

• Flow through permeability

• We are developing techniques for resedimenting silt-clay mixtures to provide homogeneous experimental material.

• The lab is also developing a Temperature Two Pressure probe (T2P) for measuring pore pressure in formation
